Snowmass Village, Colo., (November 6, 2017) – The Winter 2017/2018 season brings revelries, celebrations, traditions, and much more to Snowmass, Colorado. Kicking off the season with Snowmass’ 50th anniversary the weekend of December 15-17, the 2017/2018 winter event lineup includes over 45 events, ranging from cultural, to outdoor, to kid friendly.
“Winter is what Snowmass is known for,” says Rose Abello, Tourism Director, Snowmass Tourism. “This year we are looking forward to an exciting winter lineup, with even more events and activities. The 50th anniversary weekend is sure to start the season off with a bang, whether you have been coming to Snowmass for years or if this is your first time; while the U.S. Toyota Grand Prix brings the eyes of the world to Snowmass as athletes vie for a spot on the U.S. Olympic Team. Later in the season, St. Patrick’s Day and Mardi Gras always draw a festive crowd, while daily activities such as the new Snowmass S’mores and V.I.K. program offer fun for the whole family. The monthly Moonlit and new Starlit Treks series round out the calendar nicely.”

Snowmass 50th Anniversary Weekend – December 15-17: This winter, Snowmass celebrates its 50th Anniversary. The celebration weekend, December 15-17, kicks off the season long revelries with a retro costume party, fireworks, anniversary dine-around with $19.67 and $50 prix fixe menus at participating bars and restaurants, revivals of classic events such as Banana Days (an on-mountain scavenger hunt featuring 1,967 bananas), a vintage invitation Cabin Jump and rail jam, and more. Throughout the season, 50th anniversary events and activities keep the celebratory spirit alive, including historical mountain tour, golden trail signs denoting the mountain’s original runs, dining specials, an art installation, frequent parties and fireworks, official merchandise for sale, and more. Toyota U.S. Grand Prix – January 10-14: Joining two stops in Copper Mountain and one at Mammoth Mountain, Snowmass is set to host the third of four stops of the Toyota U.S. Grand Prix. U.S. Snowboard Team and U.S. Freeski Team athletes from around the country compete in Snowmass for a chance to be named to the U.S. Olympic Team. Athletes compete in five ski and snowboard slopestyle and halfpipe qualification events on Snowmass’ award winning park and pipe. Mardi Gras – February 13: A 35-year tradition in Snowmass, Mardi Gras kicks off with the early morning Mother Of All Ascensions uphill race, followed by an afternoon of revelry with a traditional bead toss at 3:00 p.m. and a finale of fireworks at 7:30 p.m. Bars and restaurants around Snowmass Village offer food and drink specials and a fun, festive atmosphere. https://www.gosnowmass.com/event/mardi-gras-celebration/
St. Patrick’s Day – March 17: Get lucky in Snowmass! Enjoy festive drinks and delicious fare both on-mountain and off-mountain with highlights including live music, plenty of green beer along with Irish Stew and corned beef & cabbage. https://www.gosnowmass.com/event/st-patricks-day-celebrations/
Starlit Treks & Moonlit Treks – Spend the evening under the stars with a 1.2-mile snowshoe or cross-country ski around the Snowmass Club golf course, with a stop for cookies and hot chocolate. End with a family-style pasta dinner at Black Saddle Bar and Grille with live music and s’mores. Starlit Treks and Moonlit Treks occur on the Saturday nearest darkest night (Starlit Treks) and full moon (Moonlit Treks) of each month. Starlit Treks feature an ACES (Aspen Center for Environmental Studies) astronomer on hand to chat about the night sky, while Moonlit Treks feature a guided tour with an ACES naturalist.

Snowmass’ offers free daily activities for the whole family. New for the 2017/2018 season, guests can enjoy Snowmass S’mores, free s’mores with a unique Snowmass spin from 3:30 p.m. – 4:30 p.m. every day. Guests will find branded s’mores carts at the fire pits in Base Village and the Snowmass Mall, where they can choose from an assortment of out-of-the-ordinary s’mores fixings, roast their marshmallow and build their perfect s’more.
Snowmass’ V.I.K. Program is specifically designed to provide kids’ après activities for families once the lifts close. With daily programming including storytelling, s’mores, cookie decorating, and more, Snowmass offers activities every day all season long for children of all ages.
