Or for a more rustic experience, the Roaring Fork Valley offers a variety of camping options for those wanting to stay near Snowmass. Reservations, when available, are highly recommended, as sites book up fast for the summer.

Camping Sites near Snowmass

Difficult Campground is located 4 miles past Aspen on the way to Independence Pass on highway 82. It has 47 seasonal camp sites open mid-May to late September. The elevation is 8,180 ft. with access to fishing and hiking. The campground has vault toilets, water and trash facilities and can accept a trailer up to 40 ft. long. Reservations are required.

The Lincoln Gulch Campground turn-off is located 11 miles past Aspen on the way to Independence Pass on highway 82. It has only 6 camp sites on a first-come basis with a season roughly from mid-May to the end of September. The elevation is 9,600 ft. and offers access to fishing and hiking. The campground has vault toilets, water and trash facilities and can accept a trailer up to 16 ft. long.

Lincoln Creek is located along Lincoln Creek, past the gulch campsites and offers 22 dispersed sites for car camping only. The season ranges from mid-May to late September. The elevation is 9,800 ft. with access to fishing and hiking. High clearance and 4×4 is recommended. and no toilets, water or trash facilities are available. First come basis.

Weller Campground is located just past the Lincoln Gulch campground on the way to Independence Pass on highway 82. It has 11 campsites with picnic tables, vault toilets, fire grates, trash disposal, and potable water. The season ranges from mid-May to late September. Elevation is 9,400 ft., and it has access to fishing and hiking. Trailer space is limited, and it’s first-come basis.

The Lost Man Campground is located 14.5 miles past Aspen on the way to Independence Pass on highway 82 and offers 10 campsites.  The season ranges from mid-May to late September. The elevation is 10,500 ft. with access to fishing, hiking, and a nearby ghost town. The campground has vault toilets, water and trash facilities. Trailer space is limited. First come basis.

The Silver Bar Campground is located between Aspen and Snowmass up Maroon Creek Road. It has 4 primitive, walk-in campsites. The season ranges from mid-May to late September.  Elevation is 8,460 ft. and includes hiking access. The campground has vault toilets, water and trash facilities but does not accept trailers. Reservations required.

Silver Bell Campground is located between Aspen and Snowmass up Maroon Creek Road. It has 14 campsites with picnic tables, vault toilets, fire grates, trash disposal and potable water. The season ranges from mid-May to late September. Elevation is 8,490 ft. and it has access to fishing, climbing, hiking & more. It does not accept trailers. Reservations required.

Silver Queen campground is located between Aspen and Snowmass up Maroon Creek Road. It has 6 campsites with picnic tables, vault toilets, fire grates, trash disposal, and potable water. The season ranges from mid-May to late September. Elevation is 8,680 ft. and there is a 30-foot RV limit. Reservations required.
