Snowmass Winter 2019/2020 Season Event Lineup Features Four New Events & Many Returning Favorites

Snowmassive Celebration & Passapalooza, Torah Bright MiniShred, NASTAR National Championships, and the U.S. Alpine Tech Championships Come to Snowmass this Winter

Snowmass Village, Colo., (October 24, 2019) – The Snowmass Village winter 2019/2020 events calendar showcases new events and returning favorites. New to the winter calendar lineup is the Snowmassive Celebration & Passapalooza, December 13-15, Torah Bright MiniShred on January 10, the NASTAR National Championships, March 24-28, and the U.S. Alpine Tech Championships, March 28-31. Returning events include the 37th Annual Mardi Gras Celebration, St. Patrick’s Day revelries, the return of daily Snowmass S’mores, and much more.

 

Highlighted Winter 2019/2020 Events

Snowmass Opening Day – November 28: Snowmass Ski Area celebrates Opening Day on Thanksgiving Day with plenty of on-the-slopes fun, followed by Thanksgiving menus at participating restaurants around Snowmass Village.

 

Thanksjibbing – November 29: Spectators are invited to watch talented skiers and snowboarders throw down for their piece of a cash prize (and season long bragging rights) on an urban inspired terrain park on Fanny Hill from 2:00-3:00pm.

 

Snowmassive Celebration & Passapalooza – December 13-15: Snowmassive Celebration takes places concurrently with Passapalooza, December 13-15. Passapalooza grants access to all four Aspen Snowmass mountains for only $59 per day for skiers and riders who have a valid 2019/2020 pass from any ski resort in the world. Passapalooza also offers $99 clinics from the Ski & Snowboard Schools of Aspen Snowmass as well as $56 demo packages available at all Four Mountain Sports locations. Snowmass Village literally lights up on Friday and Saturday nights for the Snowmassive Celebration, featuring unique, immersive and interactive art and light-based installations including multi-media video mapping, designed to transform natural surroundings, as well as illuminated ice sculptures on the Snowmass Mall and in Snowmass Base Village. All weekend long guests can enjoy restaurant specials throughout the Village, as well as check out all the new restaurants, retailors and activities including the new Collective Snowmass. The Collective Snowmass features a new restaurant concept, mix6, by award-winning Aspen chef Martin Oswald; MoxiBar, offering inventive cocktails, craft beers, and renowned wines; and the new Game Lounge with an interactive music wall, neon foosball, table tennis, retro-inspired arcade games, Zeigler Reservoir ball pool, large scale coloring wall, video games, and more. In addition, on Saturday evening, guests can enjoy an ice-skating exhibition on The Rink in Snowmass Base Village, complete with fire dancers and the Aspen Skating Club; free rock climbing at the Limelight Hotel Snowmass on the hotel’s five-story, indoor climbing wall; and music by DJ Naka G. The weekend is also the 10th anniversary of Viceroy Snowmass, complete with packages, specials, and more.

 

New Year’s Eve Torchlight Parade & Fireworks – December 31, 2019: Ring in 2020 in Snowmass! Close out 2019 with a traditional torchlight parade on Fanny Hill. Skiers and snowboarders ages 8 and up are invited to join in the fun. Later in the evening, take in the sight of fireworks illuminating the sky and slopes. The Viceroy Snowmass features two parties, a New Year’s Eve Gala in Toro Kitchen & Lounge and a Community New Year’s Eve Party in the Viceroy ballroom, while Snowmass Base Village kicks off the new year with a 21+ Roaring 20’s themed party. Look for a variety of additional prix fixe and à la carte specials and parties at restaurants and bars around Snowmass Village.

 

Torah Bright MiniShred – January 10, 2020: Olympic and X Game medalist and Aspen Snowmass ambassador Torah Bright hosts her Mini Shred event in Snowmass on January 10 in Makaha Park. This park jam event is free to join for both riders and skiers ages 7-17 with a valid lift ticket. Participants must be an intermediate level rider or skier to participate, helmets are required.

 

37th Annual Mardi Gras Celebration & Fireworks – February 25, 2020: A 37-year tradition in Snowmass, Mardi Gras kicks off with the early morning Mother of All Ascensions uphill race, followed by an afternoon of revelry with a traditional bead toss, a free Bud Light Hi-Fi Concert in Snowmass Base Village, and fireworks. Look for food and drink specials at restaurants and bars around Snowmass Village.

 

St. Patrick’s Day Celebration – March 17, 2020: Get lucky in Snowmass! Enjoy festive drinks and delicious fare both on-mountain and off-mountain with highlights including a music, kid’s activities in Snowmass Base Village, plenty of green beer, along with other St. Patrick’s Day specials. Look for the return of the Ullrhof Games – complete with beer pong and corn hole – on the deck of the Ullrhof.

 

NASTAR National Championships – March 24-28, 2020: New for 2020, Aspen Snowmass plays host to the NASTAR National Championships at Snowmass March 24-28. NASTAR is a youth feeder program for the U.S. Ski Team, and U.S. Ski Team athletes set the pace for NASTAR. More than 50,000 racers compete at 100 resorts across the country to qualify for a spot at the National Championships. Recreational racers compete within their age and ability group to earn a National Championship title and place in the final, Race of Champions. Each National Champion carries their handicap into the race to compete for the overall win. U.S. Alpine Tech Championships – March 28-31, 2020: Aspen Snowmass, in collaboration with the U.S. Ski & Snowboard and Aspen Valley Ski & Snowboard Club, hosts the 2020 U.S. Alpine Tech Championships March 28-31 at Snowmass and Aspen Highlands. The Tech Championships kick off at Snowmass with the parallel slalom, before moving over to Aspen Highlands for the men’s and women’s slalom and giant slalom events.

 

Snowmass Closing Day Celebration – April 18, 2020: Close out the season with a bang! Look forward to on-mountain and off-mountain parties, including the Surf & Snow Beach Party and pond skim at Elk Camp followed by a swimsuit ski to the base of the mountain.

 

2019/2020 Season Long Events

Snowmass S’mores

Back for its third year, starting on opening day, guests of all ages can enjoy Snowmass S’mores, free from 3:30 – 4:30pm every day throughout the winter season, presented by Snowmass Tourism. Guests can find branded s’mores carts (which resemble oversized marshmallows and include step by step s’moring instructions) at the fire pits in Snowmass Base Village and on the Snowmass Mall, each serving up the classic s’more combination of graham crackers, chocolate, and roasted marshmallows. Over the holiday season, guests can delight in a special holiday s’more flavor, the Candy Cane, complete with graham cracker, marshmallow, and white chocolate peppermint bark, in addition to The Classic.  

 

The Rink

The Rink in Snowmass Base Village is open daily from noon to 9:00pm this winter. The Rink and skate rentals are free all season long. New for the 2019/2020 winter season, The Rink features daily programming and themed skating nights, such as disco night. Game of Stones, last year’s highly successful curling series, returns December 13, 20, and 27, as well as February 7, 14, 21, and 28. Also new this year, Ice Bumper Cars debut as a pop up this holiday season, daily from December 17 to January 2.

 

The Collective Snowmass

The Collective Snowmass, the heart and soul of Snowmass Base Village, is hub for community events. The Collective Snowmass features daily programing throughout the winter, starting in December with holiday programing and continuing on January 2nd through the end of the season with different offerings every day. The Collective features diverse daily programming for people of all ages. Mondays features flexible and unique programing, such a wine tastings, book signings, speakers, movie nights, etc.; Tuesdays features ACES Snowmass Perspective; Wednesdays highlight live music by Schaefer Welsch, except the first Wednesday of each month, which is home to the Pitkin County Library Book Club; Thursdays feature morning story time and evening bingo night; start Friday mornings with Morning Meditation and continue the fun with Friday Afternoon Club w/ live music; on Saturdays come out for Party on the Rink, featuring disco nights, father/daughter skate nights, etc.; and finally, Sundays feature a Local’s Brunch & Bloody Mary Bar at Mix Six, as well as Live in Snowmass – Snowmass’ collection of live theatrical productions, including comedy, improv, cabaret, piano, and more. The monthly rotation features performances by David Dyer, Consensual Improv, Characters of Aspen, Stand Up Comedy, and cabaret nights by various local artists, many of whom performed with the old Crystal Palace Troupe.
