Late Summer Fun Continues in Snowmass Village, CO

Snowmass’ August Lineup Features Biking Events for All Ages, Abilities, and Genders; A New Circus; Spartan Races; And Much More

Snowmass Village, Colo., (July 30, 2019) – August sees the addition of two new events to Snowmass’ varied event lineup, plus returning favorites and traditional staples. Events making their Snowmass debut include Spartan Snowmass (August 3-4) and Circus Bella, Kaleidoscope (August 23-25). The Big Mountain Enduro Finals, Audi Power of Four MTB Race, and Yeti Cycles VIDA MTB Series Presented By Shimano (August 17-18), combine together under the new umbrella of Snowmass Bike Festival, while other local favorites like the Snowmass Community Photo & Get the Scoop (August 15) and JAS Aspen Snowmass (August 30-September 1), return.

 

“August in Snowmass is so gorgeous, with long sunny days, crisp nights, and tons of events to enjoy,” says Rose Abello, Tourism Director, Snowmass Tourism. “Spartan Snowmass is debuting in Snowmass Village, showcasing the beauty of our town to a new set of outdoor enthusiasts. Meanwhile, the Snowmass Bike Festival celebrates all things biking, and of course we are thrilled that Circus Bella is bringing their talents to Snowmass for the first time.”

 

Snowmass August Event Lineup: 

 

Movies Under The Stars – August 3, 17 (in conjunction with Snowmass Bike Festival), & 27: In partnership with Aspen Film, Movies Under the Stars showcases family-friendly screenings featuring movies from the 1970’s and 80’s, on The Rink in Snowmass Base Village. Free popcorn is provided, and viewers are encouraged to bring blankets or low-profile chairs, a picnic and non-alcoholic beverages. Adult beverages and takeout dinners are available for purchase at Snowmass Base Village restaurants, to be enjoyed on and around The Rink.

 

NEW – Spartan Snowmass – August 3-4: Spartan comes to Snowmass for the first time ever in August 2019. Spartan Snowmass features a series of obstacle course races (OCR) testing endurance and abilities of competitors of all ages and skill levels. The event festival is in Snowmass Base Village and obstacles run on Snowmass Ski Area. Friday night features an open house for participants and non-participants to enjoy and learn about the races. Participants can choose to compete in one of three distances – 30-mile “Spartan Ultra” with 60 obstacles, 13-mile “Spartan Beast” featuring 30 obstacles, and the 3-mile “Spartan Sprint” with 20 obstacles. Kid’s races are available for youth ages 4-13, featuring .5 – 2-mile courses. Volunteer opportunities are also available. 

 

Snowmass Community Photo & Get the Scoop – August 15: Meet and mingle with members of Snowmass Town Council from 5:30pm-7:00pm at the Snowmass Free Concert featuring rock/reggae group, The Samples. Town Council members will be on hand to discuss any topic of interest with community members, while serving up free ice cream. All are invited to come and connect with Council members, ask questions, and provide feedback directly to elected officials. Then, during intermission, at approximately 7:30pm, Snowmass Tourism invites community members to gather on Fanny Hill for the third annual community photo! Big Mountain Enduro Finals – August 17-18: This premier mountain biking event features high altitude riding with big descents in the Snowmass Bike Park and on new trail integrations on Aspen Mountain. Over 2 days, racers tackle 5 to 6 stages, including 12,000 feet of descending and 3,000 feet of climbing. The best in the world come from far and wide to compete on some of the most diverse mountain trails in the region to fight for glory, respect, a stacked prize purse, and Enduro World Series qualification and global rankings. The Big Mountain Enduro Finals are part of the Snowmass Bike Festival, which includes activities and competitions for bike enthusiasts of all ages in Snowmass Base Village.

 

Yeti Cycles VIDA MTB Series Presented By Shimano – August 17-18:

Yeti Cycles VIDA MTB Series Presented By Shimano is a two-day women’s only mountain bike clinic. The clinic provides women with the opportunity to increase their mountain biking confidence, learn new skills, and to connect with VIDA coaches on proper biking technique. The weekend includes a welcome reception, healthy meals, yoga, bike maintenance classes, happy hour events, and tons of riding. The Clinic is part of the Snowmass Bike Festival.

 

Audi Power of Four MTB Race – August 17: Aspen Snowmass presents the 9th annual Audi Power of Four Mountain Bike race. This year, the course has a new design. Riding as a loop rather than a point to point, riders circumnavigate Snowmass Village on the iconic Snowmass Loop. The 2019 course utilizes some of the best single track in the valley over a 25-mile loop that starts and finishes in Snowmass Base Village. The full Power of Four division includes two laps of the course, while the Power of Two division does one lap. The event is part of the Snowmass Bike Festival.

 

NEW – Circus Bella, Kaleidoscope – August 23-25: A classic circus re-imagined for a modern world, Circus Bella, Kaleidoscope, in partnership with Circus Colorado, comes to Snowmass Village for the first time for a limited engagement, August 23-25, 2019. Circus Bella is the San Francisco Bay Area’s premiere one-ring circus, curated in the traditions of earlier eras with forward-thinking sensibilities and flair. Like the word Bella, Circus Bella celebrates the beauty of the circus art form and the exquisiteness of what humans can do together. With gusto and daring, humanity and heart, Circus Bella connects with their audiences by way of thrilling feats and engaging camaraderie, all to the heartbeat of a live band. Circus Bella delights in showing audiences amazing tricks and feats in ways they have never seen before. Over the course of the weekend, seven shows take place in Snowmass Base Village.

 

JAS Aspen Snowmass Labor Day Experience – August 30-September 1: JAS Aspen Snowmass Labor Day Experience, a world-class music festival, set amidst the stunning backdrop of Snowmass Village, returns to Snowmass Town Park with headliners including Sting, John Mayer, Weezer, Luke Combs, Portugal. The Man, H.E.R., ZZ Ward, and Turkuaz.

 

On-going August Events

 

Farm-to-Table Tuesdays & Bonus Bike Park Nights – Through August 13: Snowmass is the place to be on Tuesday nights. Lift-served biking continues until dusk on Tuesday evenings. Purchase a Late Arrival ticket for $34 and ride from 2:00pm until dusk. For non-bikers (or once finished biking) guests can take the Elk Camp Gondola to the Elk Camp Restaurant and enjoy an a la cart dinner inspired by the farm-to-table movement with locally sourced ingredients. A full cash bar, outdoor family activities, and live music round out the evening.

Snowmass Rodeo – Wednesdays, Through August 21: The Snowmass Rodeo celebrates 46 years of operations this summer, making it one of the longest continuously running rodeos in Colorado. The Snowmass Rodeo takes place on Wednesdays at 7:00pm, rain or shine, throughout the summer.

 

Snowmass Free Concert Series – Thursdays, Through August 22: Throughout the summer, Snowmass hosts a weekly free concert series on Fanny Hill, showcasing genres of music ranging from reggae, to soul, to funk, to rock. 2019 marks the 28th year of the Snowmass Free Concert Series.

 

Fridays on the Mall & Friday Afternoon Club and Artisan Market – Fridays, Through August 23: Kick off the weekend on Fridays in Snowmass! Fridays on the Mall features live music from local bands and Aspen Music Festival & School musicians, extended business hours, local artisans, food & drink specials, and more. The Après Artisan Market in Snowmass Base Village showcases a variety of locally owned businesses selling specialty food items, clothing, handcrafted goods, art, jewelry, accessories, and Colorado-sourced vegetables.
