Aspen Snowmass and Snowmass Tourism to Host Snowmass Luminescence

An interactive light and art exhibit open from Dec. 18  to Feb. 28

ASPEN SNOWMASS, Colo. – Nov. 23, 2020 – Snowmass Luminescence, an interactive art and light exhibit brought to you by Aspen Snowmass and Snowmass Tourism, will light up Fanny Hill in Snowmass, from Dec. 18 through Feb. 28. The exhibit will connect the Snowmass Base Village and the Snowmass Mall through The Tunnel which includes six separate light installations, along with two world renowned rotating installations, Submergence by Squidsoup (Dec. 18 – Feb. 28) and Prismatica by Creos and Raw Design (Feb. 1 – Feb. 28).

Snowmass Luminescence will run from sunset to 9 p.m. nightly and serve as an entertaining, joyful alternative to taking the Skittles gondola, encouraging guests to walk from the Snowmass Base Village to the Snowmass Mall. The installation will provide safe, fun outdoor entertainment for guests of all ages throughout the evenings. Proper footwear is encouraged, as the light-up art journey will be on a snow surface.

“We are thrilled to offer Aspen Snowmass guests and community members a joyful and bright evening activity,” says Deric Gunshor, director of event development at Aspen Snowmass. “With much of our normal evening entertainment on hold this winter season, Snowmass Luminescence will provide guests with an opportunity to get outside and spend time with family while social distancing and safely exploring this beautiful installation.”

The Tunnel consists of a series of six separate light installations, such as Kaleidoscope, Twister and Arches, each unique in its presentation and experience. In addition, diffraction glasses will be available at ticket offices, restaurants and hotels throughout Snowmass Base Village for guests to experience the journey of light.

Submergence by Squidsoup is an installation that uses thousands of individual lights suspended in the air to transport viewers to an abstract world of twinkling lights. The exhibit has traveled to over 70 spaces and cities across the globe including Brussels, Burning Man, Mexico City and Los Angeles.

Those that have experienced Prismatica by Creos and Raw Design claim that it resembles a modern day ice castle. With 25 large moving prisms of light, each over 2 meters tall, guests will enter a fortress of light and color, and be able to spin the prisms themselves to make the light dance. Prismatica has made appearances in Switzerland, Charlotte, N.C., Niagra Falls and more.
