Ziegler Reservoir Tour: Visit the Site of a World-Class Ice Age Discovery

In 2010, a massive paleontological moment happened right here in Snowmass Village at the Ziegler Reservoir. While excavating to build the reservoir, nearly thousands of prehistoric fossils were unearthed, including those of mastodons, mammoths, giant sloths, and more.

16 years after the discovery, guests have the chance to learn about Snowmass’ famous discovery up close and personal at the site on a guided tour with experts from the Aspen Science Center. Registration is required and can be completed here. 

Tours–happening at 9:00am, 11:00am, and 3:00pm–will begin at the Owl Creek Room at Limelight Snowmass with a brief introduction and discussion before walking together to the Transit Center for a short bus ride to Ziegler Reservoir. At the Reservoir, the Aspen Science Center will share exciting details about the 2010-2011 excavation.

*Please note that this is an outdoor walking experience.  The reservoir site has no restroom facilities or seating. The tour will take place along a dirt path adjacent to the reservoir. Comfortable shoes, water, and weather-appropriate clothing are recommended.
