Climate Change Panel Discusses Snowmass’ Climatic Past, Present & Future

Peter Goble, a prominent Colorado climatologist from Colorado State University, will lead a climate change panel on Colorado’s future in a changing environment. In Snowmass Village, changes are apparent, requiring timely adaptation and mitigation. Goble is joined by local leaders from Aspen Skiing Company, Aspen Center for Environmental Studies, and the Wildfire Collaborative who will share their respective work in the climate space. The discussion is moderated by Snowmass Village’s Town Manager, Clint Kinney. 

Panelists: 

Peter Goble, Assistant Colorado State Climatologist: Peter works at the Colorado Climate Center as the Assistant State Climatologist of Colorado. He received his B.S. in meteorology from the University of Northern Colorado and his M.S. in atmospheric science from Colorado State University.  He specializes in climate variability and drought. Recent research projects include investigating the sources of error in western Colorado water supply forecasts, determining areas of Colorado most suitable for expansion of the wine grape industry, understanding the impact of climate change on extreme precipitation patterns in Colorado, and increasing both observational and modeled soil moisture monitoring efforts in Colorado. Peter is the Colorado Community Collaborative Rain, Hail, and Snow Network Coordinator, a community science organization focused on improving precipitation observations around the world.

Chris Miller, SVP of Sustainability, Community and Advocacy at Aspen One: Chris is the Senior Vice President of Sustainability, Community and Advocacy at Aspen One, where he leads efforts to embed sustainability into business strategy and operations—and leverage Aspen’s platform to help shape policies that deliver more just and sustainable systems beyond the company’s walls. Before joining Aspen One, Chris spent 14 years at Ben & Jerry’s, where he led the Social Mission team and helped build the company’s award-winning model of corporate activism. His earlier career includes sustainability leadership at Seventh Generation, directing Greenpeace USA’s national climate campaign, and serving on the staff of Congressman Bernie Sanders. Chris splits his time between the Roaring Fork Valley and Burlington, Vermont.

Adam McCurdy, Forest and Climate Director, Aspen Center for Environmental Studies: Adam joined ACES as a Naturalist in 2008 since then he’s worked as Winter Naturalist, Educator, Hallam Lake Site Manager, and now the Forest and Climate Director. ACES’ Forest and Climate Program works with partners to steward and restore local forests and provide locally relevant climate education. Adam grew up in rural Massachusetts and discovered the beauties and intricacies of the natural world while exploring the rich forests of New England. He received his B.S. in Environmental Science from the University of Massachusetts. He received his M.A. in Geography from the University of Colorado where he studied decision-making in the face of climate change. In between work and school, Adam hiked the Appalachian Trail, Pacific Crest Trail, and Continental Divide Trail. Adam lives onsite at Hallam Lake with his wife and two children.

Angie Davlyn, Executive Director of Wildfire Collaborative Roaring Fork Valley: Angie is the Executive Director of the Wildfire Collaborative Roaring Fork Valley. She works across jurisdictions, agencies and communities to advance science-based wildfire planning and turn that science into meaningful action on the ground. Under her leadership, the Collaborative has helped bring nationally recognized wildfire modeling, significant state and federal investment, and brought mitigation projects to communities throughout the Roaring Fork Valley. Angie holds a PhD and MA in Applied Communication from the University of Colorado Boulder and lives in Carbondale with her husband and three children.
