Call to Mural Artists

As part of the Town of Snowmass Village, the Snowmass Arts Advisory Board (SAAB) is commissioning one mural located in the tunnel connecting Snowmass Town Park to the opposite side of Brush Creek Rd.

Eligibility: Mural artists must be over 18 years of age. Artist teams are welcome to apply. Must agree to Snowmass Village Contractor Guidelines.

Project Budget: Estimated at $10,000. The artist is responsible to pay for material costs.

Request for qualifications: We are seeking qualifications from mural artists who are interested in participating. Submissions should include a letter of interest, work samples, and a resume. Applicants must be able to carry out the scope of work in its entirety. Artists are encouraged to engage the community before, during, or after the installation.

Letters of interest should explain your interest in the project and an overview of your experience with murals and prior commissions.

Work samples should include at least 3 images which would be appropriate for the Snowmass Town Tunnel. Artists applying as a team should submit work samples of each individual artist’s work.

Resumes should be included for the artist or team members identifying professional creative endeavors, gallery shows, public art commissions, or other relevant work.

Mural Content: The mural should be a collaboration between the artist and Snowmass Village with hands-on involvement from the community. An example of this is inviting the community to help paint under te artist’s guidance or paint objects that are added to the mural. The mural should reflect our world-class mountain community that values family, nature, (our beautiful mountains, trees, flowers, and rivers) and the activities that are associated with it.

Tentative Timeline (Subject to Change)

February 17, 2025- Call to Artist
April 18, 2025- Call to Artist Deadline
May 2, 2025- Submission Review
May 23, 2025-Artist Notifications
July 7, 2025- Mural Installations Period Begins
July 25, 2025- Mural Installation Completed

Selection Process: The SAAB mural team will review all applications based on three criteria: artist merit, ability to deliver, and relevance to characteristics listed above.

Artist Merit: The artist has produced high-quality work and their approach will be unique to Snowmass Village.

Ability to Deliver: The artist has completed works of similar scope and demonstrates professionalism.

Application Deadline: Please send all application materials to Elizabeth Lacullo, iaculloe1@gmail.com by April 18, 2025. Subject line should read “Snowmass Tunnel Mural.” The tunnel size is 48’ long/each side (2 sides) x 6’5” high x 14’3” wide. The mural size does not need to cover the entire surface.
