We love living in Colorado and have explored much of it, but Snowmass Village surprised us with its incredible food and vibrant community. At first, we came for the snow and scenery, and while the skiing delivered, it was everything off the slopes that truly won us over.
One thing we immediately noticed when we arrived at the slopes was how approachable Snowmass’s runs feel. I still consider myself a beginner skier, while my husband has been skiing since he was a kid. That difference can sometimes make ski trips feel uneven or frustrating, but the variety of terrain made it easy for both of us to enjoy our time without compromise.
The resort is massive, offering a course for every skill level. Snowmass offers more than 3,300 acres of skiable terrain, so beginners can enjoy long, forgiving runs, and advanced skiers can tackle more challenging terrain, all on the same mountain. Plus, lift lines were short, and we never felt rushed. With so much space to explore, we could ski together, split off when we wanted, and reconnect easily, which made the whole day feel relaxed and full of freedom.
If there is one thing Snowmass does exceptionally well, it’s the food. The Alpin Room deserves a special mention; this ski-in, ski-out restaurant sits high on the mountain, surrounded by sweeping alpine views. With sunlight pouring through floor-to-ceiling windows, The Alpin Room offers a gourmet yet approachable take on French alpine cuisine, reimagined for a high-altitude setting. The Chilean seabass was easily one of the best things we had on this trip—it was rich, comforting, and perfectly cooked, and paired well with their wine selection.
Off the mountain, we stopped into Toro in Snowmass Base Village for their happy hour and stayed for dinner. The Latin-inspired menu is unique, bold, and incredibly satisfying after a full day of exploring.
For anyone looking for a break off the slopes, Snowmass also has a ton of fun to offer, from the Breathtaker Alpine Coaster at Elk Camp and tubing to free ice skating in the village.
While the tubing was delightful, the alpine coaster was our favorite, letting us enjoy the mountain’s excitement without needing skis or experience. You can ride it solo or with a partner, making it perfect for couples, families, or friends. The ride itself is fast, scenic, and thrilling.
Ice skating in the village is also a great option. It’s completely free (skate rentals available for a fee) and located right in the heart of Snowmass Base Village. There are several events throughout the winter season, including themed skate nights and live entertainment. And if you have a hankering for a late-day treat, the complimentary s’mores offered at the base during the winter season are a great way to connect at The Collective and close out the ski day with something sweet.
After s’mores, The Collective Snowmass in Base Village is the perfect place to unwind. The Game Lounge inside The Collective is a standout, with a ball pit, arcade games, air hockey, foosball, and even a selfie lounge. It is the perfect spot for families to take a break from the slopes, play together, or just let kids burn off extra energy.
In the same building, Slope & Hatch makes grabbing a meal or snack just as fun. From shareable bites to inventive dishes, the food is fresh, flavorful, and the perfect way to refuel after a busy day.
What makes Snowmass so special is that it doesn’t feel like a one-season destination. In the summer, the Snowmass Free Concert Series takes place on Fanny Hill, and the mountain transforms into a playground of hiking and mountain biking trails. Come fall, the landscape puts on a color show that feels straight out of a postcard. And no matter the season, the food scene is always worth looking forward to.
Snowmass Village captures everything we love about Colorado in one place: stunning scenery and easy access to the outdoors. It’s the kind of place that reminds us why we fell in love with Colorado, and how lucky we are to call this state home.
