Snowmass Village, Colo., (September 22, 2026) – Snowmass welcomes the Winter 2026/27 ski season with new and refreshed experiences across the mountain and village, including the reopening of the beloved Ullrhof, Aspen Snowmass’s first fully electric restaurant; the completion of Timberline Condominiums and Stonebridge Inn’s multi-year renovations; expanded mountain access through the Ikon Base Pass; and a full calendar of signature winter events. Looking ahead to summer 2027, the Town of Snowmass Village, Snowmass Water & Sanitation District and Denver Museum of Nature & Science will return to Ziegler Reservoir for the next phase of research following the extraordinary 2010 Ice Age discovery.
“Snowmass is entering the 2026/27 winter season with an exciting mix of new experiences, beloved traditions, and major milestones,” says Julia Theisen, Tourism Director, Snowmass Tourism. “From the mountain and village to the next chapter of the Ziegler discovery, there’s a lot to look forward to in Snowmass this winter and beyond.”
Snowmass Ice Age Discovery In a major announcement, Summer 2027 sees the enhancement of Ziegler Reservoir, the site of the 2010 Snowmass Ice Age Discovery, the richest high-altitude Ice Age ecosystem ever discovered. The 2010 discovery uncovered more than 6,000 large animal (think mammoths and mastodons) and 30,000 small animal bones, as well as plants and insects. The 2010 dig uncovered 85,000 years worth of history. Today, the Snowmass paleontological site is recognized as the richest high-altitude Ice Age ecosystem ever discovered. The 2027 dig, a partnership with the Town of Snowmass Village, Snowmass Water & Sanitation District, and Denver Museum of Nature & Science, represents the next phase of ice age discovery in Snowmass. By analyzing data from ancient soils, with the potential for preserved proteins and environmental DNA, the Museum can more precisely reconstruct how plants, animals and climate changed together over tens of thousands of years. New research approaches can add layers of information to an already extraordinary Ice Age story.
Aspen Snowmass Ski Resort News Ullrhof, the beloved mid-mountain restaurant on Snowmass, started a complete rebuild in summer 2025 and is set to re-open for the 2026-27 winter season. The new Ullrhof is Aspen Snowmass’s first fully electric restaurant with seating for 600+. This project is part of a multi-year initiative to elevate guest dining experiences at Snowmass and add restaurant seating across the mountain.
Aspen Snowmass joins the Ikon Base Pass for the upcoming 2026/27 winter season, providing five days of access to Snowmass with select blackout dates. This new pass offering gives more guests the opportunity to experience Snowmass – Aspen Snowmass’ largest mountain and a destination known for its expansive high-alpine terrain and family-friendly skiing – this winter season. Access with the Ikon Base Pass is valid at Snowmass only and does not include Aspen Mountain, Aspen Highlands, or Buttermilk. For access to all four mountains, the Ikon Pass will continue to offer seven-day combined access to all four Aspen Snowmass mountains.
Snowmass Hotel, Restaurant & Retail News
Opening shortly after Snowmass welcomed its first guests in 1967, the Stonebridge Inn has spent more than five decades welcoming skiers, hikers, and families to one of the resort’s most sought-after locations. This December, the 93-room hotel, managed by CoralTree Hospitality, enters its next chapter, reopening just in time for the 2026-27 winter season following a $15.7 million top-to-bottom transformation.
The Timberline Condominiums completes the final stage of a $25 million, multi-year renovation for the 2026-27 ski season — one of the most significant investments in the property’s history. The project includes exterior building renovations, upgraded siding and architectural finishes, refreshed common areas, infrastructure enhancements, and improvements to guest-facing amenities throughout the resort. The project allows The Timberline to carry forward its legacy as a cherished ski-in/ski-out destination and timeless mountain retreat in Snowmass Village.
The Collective Snowmass, a hub for the Snowmass community, features a robust activity lineup for the winter 2026/27 season. Collective Conversations is a new series featuring community members presenting on topics they are passionate about. New Community Lunch & Learn Workshops offers similar opportunities for community members to learn about varying topics over the lunch hour. New wellness programming includes special sessions for sound healing, Tarot readings, breathwork, and New Moon events. Sunday Social Club features rotating offerings of game nights, craft workshops, and more. The wildly popular Toddler Time is back Sunday mornings from 9:00am-12:00pm for families with kids under 5, free in the Game Lounge. The winter season also sees the continuation of original programming such as Karaoke with DJ Tenza, Chess Club, Bingo Nights, ACES Wild Perspectives, Mahjong Nights, On the Rise Open Mics, Two-Step dancing offerings, Teen Nights, Storytime, and more.
Winter 2026/2027 Events Wintersköl – December 10-13 This year marks the 75th annual Wintersköl celebration. Since 1951, Wintersköl has been the ultimate “toast to winter,” honoring Aspen’s mountain spirit with a packed weekend of fun and tradition. This multi-day festival brings the mountains to life with on-mountain activities, stunning snow sculptures, a hearty soup contest, a lively beer festival, live music, a roaring bonfire, a torchlight descent, and fireworks lighting up Aspen Mountain—complete with a holiday market in Snowmass Village. Wintersköl continues to deliver a one-of-a-kind winter experience for locals and visitors alike. New Year’s Eve Torchlight Parade – December 31 On New Year’s Eve, guests and locals alike are invited to experience the New Year’s Eve Torchlight Parade. The Torchlight Parade features skiers and snowboarders making wide turns down the mountain with red flares that illuminate the night sky and snow with a festive glow.
The Snow League – January 7-9 The Snow League, created by legendary snowboarder Shaun White, returns to Buttermilk with team-based head-to-head heats and high-impact format from the world’s best snowboarders and freeskiers.
Aspen Gay Ski Week: 50th Anniversary: January 17-24, 2027 Aspen Gay Ski Week celebrates five decades of legacy and its 50th year in 2027 with a Golden Jubilee.
2027 X Games Aspen – January 29-31 Returning to Buttermilk for its 26th year, X Games Aspen features elite athletes, live music, and vibrant on-mountain entertainment, setting the tone for an epic winter.
Toyota U.S. Grand Prix – February 22-28 Elite competition returns to Aspen Snowmass as the Toyota U.S. Grand Prix brings the world’s top ski and snowboard athletes to Aspen Snowmass. A staple on the FIS World Cup circuit, this event features slopestyle and halfpipe disciplines—set against the iconic backdrop of the Rocky Mountains.
Mardi Gras – February 6 & February 9 45 years of Mardi Gras tradition returns to Snowmass Village in 2027. On February 6, enjoy the traditional Bead Toss by the 2027 Mardi Gras King & Queen, live music, and other festive celebrations. Then on Fat Tuesday, February 9, the Mother of All Ascensions uphill race takes over the morning slopes, culminating in a Mardi Gras themed party.
ASE Flight Updates: For Winter 2026/2027, American Airlines returns with newly expanded daily service between Charlotte, North Carolina (CLT), and Aspen, Colorado (ASE), launching December 17, 2026, complementing existing American flights into ASE from Dallas/Fort Worth (DFW), Chicago/O’Hare (ORD), Los Angeles (LAX), Phoenix (PHX), and Austin (AUS). American joins United, Delta, and Aero, all serving ASE throughout the winter season. Winter 2026/2027 sees business as usual at the Aspen/Pitkin County Airport. Starting Sunday, April 4, 2027 at 11:00 p.m. MT through Friday, November 19, 2027 at 7:00 p.m. MT, Aspen/Pitkin County Airport will undergo a temporary closure, part of the larger ASE Modernization Project. Aspen Snowmass and the region’s world-class community of businesses, lodging properties, restaurants, and event venues will remain fully open and operational during the temporary closure.
