What’s New for Winter in Snowmass, CO

Winter Season 2018/2019 Sees the Debut of the New Snowmass Base Village, New Limelight Hotel, New Restaurants & Retail Shops, and More

Snowmass Village, Colo., (September 28, 2018) – The upcoming 2018/2019 winter ski season ushers in a renewed Snowmass with the opening of Snowmass Base Village and the Limelight Hotel Snowmass on December 15, 2018. The season also sees the opening of the new Snowmass Mountain Club, new restaurants and retail spaces, hotel renovations, and more.

All of this ‘new’ just augments the extraordinary Snowmass experience that we have come to know and love over the years.”

 

Snowmass Base Village

Snowmass Base Village Grand Opening – December 15, 2018

Snowmass Base Village debuts on December 15, 2018 with the opening of the new Limelight Hotel Snowmass, ice skating rink, and events plaza. The Lumin Building, Snowmass Base Village’s most exclusive address, with three private-access residences featuring contemporary alpine design and located steps from the Elk Camp Gondola also opens. In addition, December 14-16 features a weekend of activities and fun in celebration of the opening including music, lift ticket deals, and more.

 

New Limelight Hotel Snowmass

The new Limelight Hotel Snowmass debuts on December 15, 2018. The hotel features 99 hotel rooms and 11 for-sale private residences, plus a new restaurant and lounge, a children’s game area as well as a five-story climbing wall that will be open to the public and is the largest of its kind in the state. Modeled after the company’s existing properties in Aspen, Colo. and Ketchum, Idaho, the hotel is located adjacent to Snowmass Mountain’s Elk Camp Gondola providing ski-in/ski-out access. The new hotel property remains consistent with the Limelight brand featuring amenities and extras such as an expanded continental breakfast, après ski deals in the Lounge, live music, adventure activities such as First Tracks and Inside Tracks, a ski concierge as well as pet-friendly rooms. Stonehill & Taylor, based out of New York City, are the interior designers for the property, with a contemporary yet casual design theme. The hotel is pursuing an LEED certification.

 

Colorado’s Tallest Rock-Realistic Indoor Climbing Wall Comes to Snowmass Base Village

Snowmass is the home to Colorado’s largest indoor rock-realistic climbing wall, towering at 54 feet high and running directly up front of the new Limelight Hotel in Snowmass, part of the $600 million Snowmass Base Village project. The massive five-story climbing wall features a granite-like surface which mirrors featured climbs near Snowmass, including the popular Grotto area on Independence Pass. Colorado’s Boulder-based Eldorado Climbing Walls designed the striking structure that features an auto-belay system with three different lanes and six routes.

 

Snowmass Mountain Club Debuts

Nestled in the new Limelight Hotel, the Snowmass Mountain Club balances exclusivity with an approachable personality. Perfect for couples and families, this cozy-chic club offers exclusive access on and off Snowmass Mountain. The on-mountain experiences available to members of the club include activities like first tracks, moonlight cross-country skiing, mountain biking, hiking and summer off-road tours as well as access to an on-site concierge. The facilities are equipped with ski valet, family locker rooms, and après-ski in the club lounge. The Mountain Club, scheduled to open November 21, 2018 concurrently with the Snowmass ski area, blends wild adventure with luxurious service and countless amenities. Member benefits include private garage parking directly below the Club, ski-in access and access to the hotel’s fitness facilities and hot tubs.

 

New Renovations at Viceroy Snowmass

Just in time for ski season, Viceroy Snowmass has recently completed construction of the outdoor pool, bar and spas. The multi-million dollar renovation includes the highly anticipated return of Nest pool bar complete with local beers, craft cocktails, and two 55-inch televisions. The renovations add a total of almost 400 square feet of outdoor spa, an increase of 65% in overall spa area. The three soaking tubs offer a temperature of 102-104 degrees to accommodate both recreation and rejuvenation after a long day of skiing with jets specifically designed to focus on calves, quads and the lower back. The two newest spas can comfortably accommodate up to 24 guests, and feature a waterfall wall and two infinity edges further activating the senses with the relaxing sounds of trickling water.

 

New Restaurant & Retail in Snowmass

The Crepe Shack
Popular local chef and restaurateur, Mawa McQueen of McQueen Hospitality Group, is slated to open The Crepe Shack by Mawa’s Kitchen in Snowmass Base Village on the new plaza next to the ice rink this December. McQueen takes great pride in her culinary approach using fresh, nutritious ingredients in creative ways. The Crepe Shack will offer three different crepe batters: a gluten-free/vegan buckwheat flour; garbanzo bean flour; and regular flour. Popular crepes, like the Mawa’s Greens which includes spinach, avocado and broccoli pesto, will make an appearance, alongside comfort foods like grilled cheese with homemade gluten-free/dairy-free roasted tomato basil soup. Gluten-free options include sandwiches made with Mawa’s gluten-free breads. The Crepe Shack will feature organic eggs, milk or almond milk for galettes and sweet crepes along with local coffees, cappuccino, and fresh squeezed juices. The menu will also feature liege waffles and fresh-baked French croissants and baguettes stuffed with ham and cheese or chocolate, in addition to other offerings.

 

Limelight Snowmass Dining
The Limelight Lounge offers a menu of wood-fired pizzas, garden-fresh salads and a creative locally sourced entrées spun in internationally inspired ways. This winter, Limelight Hotel Snowmass will host a twice-a-month pairing or specialty dinner where Snowmass locals and guests alike gather for a culinary adventure to complement a guided selection of beer, craft spirit, or fine wine. Five nights a week in the winter and summer seasons (Thursday through Monday), live music lights up the Lounge. A low-key mix of folk, rock, jazz and other genres can be enjoyed with après specials and the Lounge’s signature menu of oven-fired pizzas and seasonal specialties.

 

NEST at The Viceroy Snowmass

NEST has relocated on the slopes of Snowmass to become a new slopeside ski in/ski out heated pool bar featuring seasonal specialty cocktails and lunch service including house made stews, soup and burgers, plus après specials from 3:00-5:00pm daily. NEST is located adjacent to the Viceroy’s newly renovated pool with two cascading whirlpools.

 

New Four Mountain Sports Store in Snowmass Base Village

As part of the Snowmass Base Village development project, a new 4,400 square-foot Four Mountain Sports store is set to open for the 2018/19 winter. The store is located next to the Elk Camp Gondola and offers ski and snowboard rentals as well as retail clothing and gear. Adjacent to the shop, a new ski storage structure is available to store guest’s skis or snowboards overnight or transfer to another mountain. This service is complimentary to guests when renting equipment from Four Mountain Sports. In the summer months, the store will convert into a downhill mountain bike rental shop.

 

Returning Events

Moonlit Trek Series

Spend the evening under the stars with a 1.2-mile snowshoe, walk, or cross-country ski around the Snowmass Club golf course, with a mid-way stop for cookies and hot chocolate at Anderson Ranch Art’s Center. End with a family-style pasta dinner at Black Saddle Bar and Grille with live music. Moonlit Treks feature a one hour guided tour with an ACES naturalist at 6pm. Moonlit Treks occur on the Saturday nearest the full moon each month. Dinner is $25 adults / $15 kids (12 & under). The trek around the golf course is free. Moonlit Treks occur Saturdays – December 22, January 19, February 16, and March 16 from 5:30-9:00pm.

 

Snowmass S’mores

Guests visiting Snowmass this winter can experience a sweet type of après. Back for its second year, guests of all ages can enjoy Snowmass S’mores, free s’mores from 3:30–4:30pm every day throughout the winter season starting November 22, courtesy of Snowmass Tourism. Guests can find branded s’mores carts (which resemble oversized marshmallows and include step by step s’moring instructions) at the fire pits in Base Village and the Snowmass Village Mall. Every day from November 22, 2018 – April 21, 2019 guests can enjoy a classic s’more and a rotating flavor of the day, which will change seasonally. New for the 2018/2019 winter season, Snowmass S’mores sees the addition of special flavors on holidays including Holiday Week, New Year’s Eve (December 31), Valentine’s Day (February 14), Mardi Gras (March 5), St. Patrick’s Day (March 17), and Snowmass Closing Weekend (April 20-21).

 

Additional Events

Guests visiting Snowmass can also look forward to returning events, including visits with Santa and carolers over the holidays, the 37th Annual Mardi Gras Celebration, green beer and spring skiing on St. Patrick’s Day, and the swimsuit ski down and après parties over Snowmass Closing Weekend.
