Rocky Mountain Vintage Racing and Snowmass Tourism Host Colorado’s First Automotive Street Race in 19 years in September 2017
Snowmass, Colo., (December 20, 2016) – Today, Snowmass Tourism and Rocky Mountain Vintage Racing announce The Aspen Snowmass Vintage Car Race, a new high-octane street race, set for Thursday, September 14th, 2017. The Aspen Snowmass Vintage Car Race will feature 60 vintage race cars from the 1960’s and 1970’s, competing in the first automotive race in 19 years to occur completely on Town of Snowmass Village streets. The last time a race of this caliber was held in ski country was in 1998 in Steamboat Springs, Colorado.
“We are thrilled to bring this exhilarating race to Snowmass,” says Kyle Popejoy, Treasurer of Rocky Mountain Vintage Car Racing and chair of the event. “A race of this level hasn’t been seen in the mountains in many years, so it is a real treat to see it come alive in Snowmass Village.”
The Aspen Snowmass Vintage Car Race is the kick-off to the Motoring Classic Weekend in Snowmass, September 14th-17th, 2017. In addition to the Aspen Snowmass Vintage Car Race, all race cars and other cars from the Rocky Mountain Car Clubs will be on display for guests to admire and enjoy. Top car brands include Ferrari, Viper, Porsche, Cobra, BMW, Audi, and more. The car-centric weekend continues with The Finest Automobile Auction at Aspen Snowmass, a sophisticated car auction that displays highly sought after collector cars, returning for its third year.
For those looking to enhance their visit with a culinary experience, the weekend also includes The Snowmass Wine Festival, which offers guests the opportunity to experience a weekend of food, wine, flavors, and sounds, presented by The Snowmass Rotary Club. The weekend includes a Friday evening wine-paired dinner and a Saturday Grand Tasting, complete with top wines and local cuisine.
“The addition of the Rocky Mountain Vintage Car Race to the Motoring Classic Weekend provides guests even more reasons to stay and play in Snowmass,” says Rose Abello, Director of Snowmass Tourism. “With the streets full of classic racing cars and evenings spent enjoying the Snowmass Wine Festival, this September lineup is one not to be missed.”
